James Thomas AM QC

Biography
James Burrows Thomas was born in 1935 in Brisbane. He went to Windsor State School and then the Church of England Grammar School. He attended the University of Queensland and was awarded Bachelor degrees in Arts (1955) and Laws (1958).

In late 1958 he was admitted as a barrister to the Supreme Court, he took silk in 1975 and in 1982 was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court. In 1998 he was appointed a Judge of Appeal. He retired from the Court in 2002.

In 1994 Thomas was made a Member of the Order of Australia and was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003. He was the Chairperson of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music from 1982 - 1991.
