Born UK, arrived Australia ca.1875. Father: Maurice Atkin Harte, mother Louisa nee Henderson
Married Isabella Louisa nee Towner in 1885 in Qld.
Children: Hilda Louisa, b.1887, Norman (1891-1901), possibly another daughter.

Worked as journalist in north Qld. Set up stockbroking business in Charters Towers in 1880s. Involved in many businesses and organisations.

Enlisted December 1914, aged 52, stock and share broker. Left Brisbane in May 1915 with 7th Infantry Brigade Train, Army Service Corps, 17th Company.Overseas service in New Guinea, France and Egypt as a Captain in the Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). Mentioned in Despatches for his services as an officer in command of transport/supply units during 1916-17, before returning to Australia in 1917 with the rank of Temporary Major.
Recommendation by the Lieut.-Colonel Commanding 2nd Australian Divisional Train, for Captain (T/Major) Albert Edward Harte, to be awarded a Mentioned in Despatches, dated 4 March 1917. The citation for this recommendation states: 'Exceptionally good services as Officer Commanding a Brigade Train Coy. from 2nd. July 1915 and as Officer Commanding Headquarter Coy. from 21st. August 1916 to present date, and consistent devotion to Duty'.

Returned to Australia 25 August 1917.
In December 1920, Major Harte donated two German artillery shell relics which he souvenired during his service on the Western Front, to the Queensland Museum.
Ran Albert E Harte and Co stockbroking co. Prominent businessman, accountant, on boards etc. Retired 1934. Died May 1937.
