Brown Tiger Prawn

Penaeus esculentus

Identification: A large prawn growing to 235 mm in length. It is easily identified by its pattern of distinctive cream and reddish-brown bands.

Habitat and Range: Over mud or sandy-mud substrates. 10-22 m depth; juveniles mature in shallow waters of estuaries. Indigenous, northern Australia from Shark Bay, WA, to central NSW.

Notes: Important commercial species.
