Identification: Length to 150 mm. Rostrum lacks well-developed spines along edges; well separated grooves on posterior part of carapace form an hourglass shape; fine hairs on underside of fixed finger of claws restricted to cutting edge; inner wrist of claws usually has a well developed patch of soft setae (hairs).
Body pale cream to brown or deep blue; claws slightly darker with patterned upper palms.
Habitat & range: Constructs deep burrows, typically along the water line of rivers and creeks. In Queensland, originally restricted to streams flowing westward from the Great Dividing Range and the Dawson River. Now introduced to Brisbane River catchment and spreading quickly. Wide ranging through inland and southern Australia.
