Orange-spot Smashing Mantis Shrimp
Gonodactylaceus graphurus
Features: Finger of claw is a simple spear without any additional teeth on inside edge; swollen at base. Large orange spot inside claw; body colour variable. Transverse groove on each segment of abdomen. Grows to 60-70 mm in length.
Notes: In crevices and holes in dead and living coral clumps on reefs and in mussel clumps in shallow water (e.g. Dunwich and Myora on North Stradbroke Island). Northern Australia; also South-west Pacific.
