Dardanus pedunculatus

Features: Short, thick eyestalks with distinctive red and white banding; large pink claws with short spines.

Notes: Reefs and seagrass beds; shallow sublittoral to about 27 m; two species of sea anemones, Calliactis polypus and Verrillactis paguri, live commensally on the hermit crab's shells. Qld and NSW, widespread Indo-west Pacific.
