Red Mud Lobster

Neaxius glyptocercus

Features: Stout, lobster-like crustacean with strong claws; reddish-orange. To 100 mm.

Notes: Very common in Moreton Bay. Indigenous, northern and eastern Australia.

Tips of claws and antennae can often be seen poking out of large burrows, lower intertidal and shallow subtidal zones. Disappears rapidly if disturbed.
