Toenail Egg-cowrie
Calpurnus verrucosus
This species is common in intertidal and shallow subtidal areas, frequently seen on soft corals. It grows to about 35 mm long, has a solid, oval and broad shell with a humped back and button-like nodules at the ends of the shell. The animal covers the shell with a white or pale pink mantle that has heavy black or dark brown spots, and the muscular foot is similarly spotted.
Found in Queensland and New South Wales coasts, with a wider Indo-west Pacific distribution.
