Kuiter's Nudibranch

Chromodoris kuiteri

There are several nudibranch species that have similar colour patterns as seen in Kuiter’s Nudibranch, whereas this one differs from the others in having the black band between the outermost white and orange rings. The species is commonly 40-60 mm when extended although some specimens may grow to 75 mm. Its toxic chemicals probably come from the sponges on which it feeds. The strong warning colour patterns, especially the banding, serve to warn-off its predators such as fish.

Found throughout northern Australia and the south-western Pacific.
